JJ is out with Back to Forgetting

JJ has unveiled 'Back to Forgetting', his first new music since winning the 69th Eurovision Song Contest for Austria, with 'Wasted Love'.

After a summer spent touring Europe on a well-deserved victory lap, Austrian artist JJ is beginning his next chapter; the release of his much-anticipated follow-up single, Back to Forgetting .

It comes after that memorable moment in May, when JJ got to lift the Eurovision Song Contest trophy for Austria, giving his country its third win. He did so via a spectacular performance of the operatic ballad Wasted Love , which earned a total of 436 points to comfortably claim that victory.

And it's thanks to JJ and his team that we're off to Vienna next year !

Austria's JJ has won the 69th Eurovision Song Contest with his song Wasted Love

With Back to Forgetting , JJ wanted to reveal another side to his sound.

Where Eurovision winner Wasted Love leaned into grand, operatic drama, his new single reframes that intensity in a fresh, modern pop language. Starting with a stripped-down piano, layer by layer the song quickly builds with strings, pulsing electronic beats and crashing drums, with JJ weaving opera, electro and pop into a soundscape that hits hard.

The song was composed by JJ himself, along with Jude York and Kristofer Strandberg, with Strandberg also producing it.

JJ explains more about Back to Forgetting :

"This song is about something I had to go through myself. A lot of people know that feeling... You're finally moving on, starting to forget someone, and suddenly their message pops up again. You think, 'Oh no, not again! Not you. I was just getting back to forgetting you'. That’s what the song is about: finding your way back into the process of letting go.”
JJ won the Eurovision Song Contest for Austria with Wasted Love

Back to Forgetting arrives fresh after the incredible success of its predecessor Wasted Love . Following on from its Eurovision win at Basel 2025, the song hit the Top 25 of the Spotify Global chart (the highest debut of any song that week).

The 2.28 million Spotify streams achieved on the day after Wasted Love 's victory (watched by a television audience of 166 million ) has now grown into a total approaching 40 million, and has resulted in chart entries for the young countertenor everywhere from Iceland to Indonesia.

Over the summer, JJ was also honoured with Vienna's Golden Rathausmann award , handed to him by the Austrian capital's mayor.
