A place at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 was written in the stars for Klavdia. She’s heading to Basel to represent Greece with the song ‘Asteromáta’.

Introducing Klavdia Borealis

If you take a short break from Eurovision and look up at the night sky, you’ll see constellations named after figures from Ancient Greek mythology. Klavdia is keeping up the Greek tradition, and looking up. And when she competed at Greece’s national final Ethnikós Telikós with her song Asteromáta, the stars aligned.

For the first time since 2017, Greece held a national final to find their 2025 artist. During the contest, 12 songs went head to head across an entertainment-packed evening. Greece’s Eurovision artist from 2024 Marina Satti performed her certified bop ZARI, which finished in 11th place at the Contest. And the show’s hosts (Helena Paparizou and Sakis Rouvas) also took on songs by a couple of other Eurovision legends – ABBA’s Waterloo and Johnny Logan’s Hold Me Now.

Klavdia was up against some tough competition, including a very catchy song about elevators and a country track. She performed her song Asteromáta, which means starry-eyed, with a long train from her outfit swirling around her. Dancers set the scene in nude bodysuits, and the stage came alight with red clouds and lightning.

After the public and jury votes came in, Klavdia shot to the top of the leaderboard, and got her ticket to Basel. We can’t wait to see what she does on the Eurovision stage. Sure, Ursa Major is great, but this new Greek star is getting ready to shine.

Shooting to stardom

Klavdia first got the world’s attention when she reached the final of The Voice of Greece , where she was in Eurovision icon Helena Paparizou’s team. She dazzled the judges in the blind audition with her rendition of Roxanne by The Police, with several judges turning their chairs on just her opening line, and with all four turning by the end. In the final, she took on James Brown's It’s A Man’s Man’s Man’s World. And in both songs, she showed the world she has some serious vocal pipes.

She’s continued performing since then, including some turns alongside Greek singers Dionysis Savvopoulos, Konstantinos Argiros, and Giorgos Sabanis.

She released her first single Lonely Heart in 2022, a song mixing chilled pop beats and traditional Greek sounds. The song hit number one on the Shazam Discovery list. Next up came Haramata, a two-time platinum single, and her EP Klavdia. In 2023, she won Best Newcomer at the Super Music Awards in Cyprus.

Klavdia also has a lot of fun with covers, and posts them on her TikTok account. She’s tackled Miley Cyrus’ Nothing Breaks Like A Heart, and Christina Aguilera even liked a cover of one of her songs.

In the Eurovision glow

Klavdia remembers watching Helena Paparizou’s performance of My Number One on repeat when she was young. Helena competed for Greece at Eurovision 2005, getting the first win for the country. So it must have been an incredible feeling to be mentored by her in The Voice of Greece.

Alongside Helena, Klavdia’s other Eurovision hero is Loreen, who’s won the Contest twice for Sweden with Euphoria and Tattoo.

Klavdia says: “I admire them as artists, because they’ve managed to win Eurovision and be loved by everyone. And because they made me chase my dreams and become a representative of my country in the Eurovision Song Contest.”

Becoming a pop star

Klavdia has a distinctive sound, combining powerhouse vocals with laid-back rhythms and traditional Greek music.

She’s been inspired by music from across different pop genres, some of which you can hear coming through in her music. She can often be found listening to The Weeknd’s Take My Breath, Billie Eilish’s WILDFLOWER, and Ariana Grande’s God is a woman.

When she gets on the karaoke, Klavdia keeps it in the Eurovision family. She loves to perform Loreen’s Tattoo. But when it’s time for the dance floor, she can’t resist Lou Bega’s Mambo No. 5. A little bit of Klavdia’s what Europe needs!

An astronomical journey

Klavdia imagines that Switzerland will be full of beautiful nature, the best chocolate and Swiss cheese. She’s currently a big fan of cream cheese, but we’ll soon see if there’s room in her heart for the holey variety.

She says that she’s really looking forward to two things in Basel – the Eurovision experience, and trying all the different kinds of chocolate.
