A royal appointment from Serbia: A song fit for Princ
Princ will be representing Serbia at Basel 2025
Princ will be risking it all for Serbia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025, taking to the stage in Basel with his song ‘Mila’.
Next in line for the throne
Princ may have a majestic name, but he didn’t get a free pass to Eurovision. He took his song Mila to Serbia’s national final competition, Pesma za Evroviziju, against 15 other talented finalists. When the jury and public votes came in, Princ took the crown.
This isn’t Princ’s first attempt to become Eurovision royalty. In 2023, he competed in Pesma za Evroviziju with his song Cvet sa istoka, which featured some impressive arm-ography and traditional music . Although he won the public vote, he came second overall against Luke Black with Samo Mi Se Spava.
Princ the magnificent
Princ, whose real name is Stefan Zdravković, is not just any Serbian singer. He’s a Serbian singer known as the “vocal miracle from Vranje.”
He’s won a number of international festivals, and is no stranger to televised competitions. Princ was a finalist in The Voice Bulgaria where he got all 4 judges turning their chairs with his performance of ZAYN’s PILLOWTALK. He also took on Hozier’s Take Me To Church and When A Man Loves A Woman by Percy Sledge.
Beyond singing, Princ can play the guitar and drums, and has fronted a rock band. And he’s played the lead in a Serbian production of Jesus Christ Superstar, which feels like the perfect casting.
He’s not just a talented musician. He’s also studied the Norwegian language, and is a former karate champion. And he’ll be taking a roundhouse kick to any nerves ahead of the Contest.
Not every performance has gone to plan. He once sang in a cabaret in Belgrade, and thanks to a mistake from a waiter ended up with his hair on fire. Luckily, he hadn’t used hair spray. And judging by his Eurovision-ready mane, he recovered just fine.
Despite his serious ballad, Princ is a lot of fun, and likes to joke around.
A couple of feline friends will be watching Princ from back home. He adopted two cats, who are brother and sister, and enjoy lots of cuddles. They’re called Paja and… Mila. Let’s hope Mila appreciates that she has a whole Eurovision song dedicated to her.
Eurovision royalty
Princ’s earliest Eurovision memory is watching Željko Joksimović’s beautiful performance of Lane Moje for Serbia & Montenegro in 2004, which finished in second place. Željko is also Princ’s Eurovision hero, and he feels very in tune with his style of music.
But the song that made him dream of being on the Eurovision stage was Alexander Rybak’s Fairytale, which won the Contest for Norway in 2009.
A love of music
The song Mila is all about a painful love, and is a story of betrayal. It was written by Serbian composer Dušan Bačić, who has topped charts across the Balkans.
Princ has had plenty of recognition for his voice, and just one look at his playlist shows that he’s inspired by raw male vocals and meaningful songs. Some of his favourites include Robbie Williams’ Supreme, Ed Sheeran’s Castle on the Hill, and Bruno Mars’ Grenade.
If you’re lucky enough to end up in a karaoke bar with Princ, ask him to perform Maroon 5’s Sunday Morning or Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud. And if you’re on the dancefloor, you better hope Walk The Dinosaur by Was (Not Was) comes on, because he cannot resist doing the moves.
The noble quest to Basel
When Princ thinks about Switzerland, he imagines nature, food, and Roger Federer. We’re not sure how much time there’ll be for tennis in Basel…
Princ says he’s looking forward to “seeing the beauty of Switzerland’s nature, tasting cheese and wine, and taking photos with some cows.”
