Australia’s got taste: A tall glass of Go-Jo

The ‘Milkshake Man’ is heading for Basel, thanks to Australia’s Eurovision 2025 artist, Go-Jo. He’s ready to sh-sh-shake up the stage, and our calcium intake.

A totally bananas idea

As far as journeys to Eurovision go, Go-Jo’s might be the most unusual. He’d never considered entering the Contest before, until his guitarist woke up from a nap and said, “You should do Eurovision.”

Go-Jo thought that was a pretty great idea. With a French father, he’d been introduced to Eurovision at an early age. Especially as there were some Eurovision VHS tapes lying around at home. After a few meetings with the Australian broadcaster, Go-Jo’s journey to Basel was confirmed.

Anything but vanilla

You might be surprised to learn that Go-Jo isn’t this artist’s real name. He’s also known as Marty Zambotto, and he was raised off-grid in Western Australia, without electricity or running water. His mother was the front-woman of a rock band, and she gifted him his first guitar.

He started off as a professional footballer, but a love for music soon took over. He’s spent the last 18 months touring Australia, Europe, and the USA, and has shared arenas with big-name artists.

Go-Jo is passionate about vegetables. In particular, he loves broccoli, and will happily munch on a floret or two. He’s even been known to hand out broccoli when he’s busking. It’s good to know someone will be keeping the class of Eurovision 2025 vitamin-enriched.

He’s also a fan of the ocean, and sometimes washes off in the big blue instead of taking a shower.

If he had an Aladdin’s lamp, he has some great ideas about how he’d spend his wishes. First, he’d wish for more people to go to live music shows, which he thinks is an amazing way to build a sense of community. Secondly, he’d get everyone on Earth a veggie patch. (We told you he loves vegetables.)

And finally, he’d ask for a time machine so he could attend classic gigs. We reckon there are a few Eurovision Song Contests of yesteryear he'd enjoy going back in time for.

The ‘Milkshake Man’ ingredients

Milkshake Man is all about self-confidence, being the happiest version of yourself, and embracing your quirks. Go-Jo had a few projects in mind that he considered for Eurovision, but Milkshake Man was ultimately the one that he decided to serve up.

He wrote the song alongside members of the multi-platinum Australian pop band Sheppard, made up of George Sheppard, Amy Sheppard, and Jason Bovino. They’ve had some huge hits to date, including the super-catchy Geronimo.

Go-Jo’s taste in music

Go-Jo’s top karaoke song is Rage Against the Machine’s Killing In The Name, but if you want to get him on the dance floor you’re best off playing anything by One Direction. He also loves Motown and pop throwbacks from the 2000s and 2010s.

And who is the Milkshake Man’s Eurovision hero? Verka Serduchka, of course. The Ukrainian singer, comedian, and drag artist came close to the win in 2007 with Dancing Lasha Tumbai, famously wearing a mirrored star headpiece.

Go-Jo says: “I love their performance so much – it's the funnest, coolest thing ever! They’re the human version of a disco ball, and I’m obsessed with that.”

Ready for fresh flavours

In another weird twist, Go-Jo was once told by a clairvoyant that he needed to go to Switzerland. When he gets there, he’s expecting to see the snowy Alps, beautiful people inside and out, and fresh water. He’s most excited about trying the food. And presumably, the milkshakes.

You can hear Go-Jo on Episode 7 of the Official Eurovision Song Contest Podcast , where you might even find out his favourite milkshake.
