Melody is bringing the drama to Switzerland, ready to represent Spain in the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 with ‘ESA DIVA’. Expect sequins, sass, and… swings?

The Journey to Basel

Before securing her spot at Eurovision, Melody first had to win over her country. Spoiler alert – she did. She competed in the final of Benidorm Fest , Spain’s national selection contest. The show opened with Nebulossa’s performance of last year's winner ZORRA , which came with leather-trousered shirtless dancers – a tough act to follow.

Melody was up against 7 other finalists, and she blew the roof off the arena. She started her performance of ESA DIVA on a raised swing, wearing a black fedora and black dress sweeping down to the stage. Safely off the swing (by some Eurovision magic), she performed what might be the quickest costume change in Eurovision pre-selection history. By the end of her song, we’d even forgotten about Nebulossa’s shirtless dancers.

Behind ESA DIVA

Melody is one of the songwriters on ESA DIVA, alongside great minds from the Eurovision hall of fame. Alberto Lorite, who has written for Benidorm Fest before, collaborated with Melody on the song, while Thomas G:son and Peter Boström also contrubuted to the track; they were two of the writers behind Loreen’s Euphoria and Tattoo, which both won the Eurovision Song Contest.

The song’s revamp for the Contest in Basel has been produced by Rick Parkhouse and George Tizzard, who have worked with artists including Green Day, David Guetta, and Camila Cabello.

The Diva Backstory

Melody released her debut album at the age of 10 – her song El Baile Del Gorila (which means 'Gorilla Dance') is still a top party tune in Spain. Since then, she’s been number one in 15 countries. She’s released 30 singles and 6 albums, and has been a star on the screen too. You might also have seen her on a musical impersonation show, where she got to flex her vocal versatility. The biggest question is – why haven’t we seen her on the Eurovision stage before?

She’s an icon in the LGBTQ+ community. And she’s battling sleepless nights now that she’s a parent. Just call her Mother.

The Rhythm of Melody

This diva has performed in some peculiar places. The one that stands out in her memory is a mountain-top concert. Now that Melody’s heading to Switzerland for Eurovision, perhaps she can recreate the moment.

Melody’s first Eurovision memory is watching Salomé’s performance of Vivo Cantando, with which Spain had its most recent Eurovision win in 1969. She of course watched the performance as a repeat, as the win came over two decades before Melody was born. Either that, or we need to know her secret to eternal youth.

She loves the feeling of stepping on stage and the audience singing along to her songs. Europe – it’s time to get learning the lyrics of ESA DIVA.

There are pop, flamenco, and Latin sounds in Melody’s music. And if you listen to her playlist of favourite songs, those vibes will shine through.

Some of her favourite songs include Lady Gaga’s Alejandro, Jennifer Lopez’s Dance Again , and Celia Cruz’s Me Huele A Rumba. If you want to get Melody up on the dancefloor, she can’t resist Raffaella Carrà’s Fiesta, a Latin track from the late 1970s.

Her favourite Eurovision artist is Céline Dion, which is the perfect answer when you’re heading to Switzerland.

'Vamos' a Basel!

Melody can’t wait to get to Switzerland, and she’s expecting great chocolate, cheese, and lakes.

She says: “I really want to get to know the country, I've been told it's beautiful. Above all, I want to discover its nature, its landscapes, and its people. And the food! I love discovering new flavours.”
