Meet Lumo: A new face for Basel 2025
Basel 2025's mascot Lumo
The city of Basel and Swiss broadcaster SRG SRR have unveiled a mascot for the 69th Eurovision Song Contest.
We’re going to be seeing a lot of Lumo in the run-up to the Eurovision Song Contest in May!
Designed as part of a competition in which 1,100 students from Basel Academy of Art and Design FHNW and the Basel School of Design were invited to submit their creative ideas, Lumo has now been brought to life and will be walking the streets of Basel in May to greet visitors to the Eurovision Song Contest.
The project is part of the efforts by this year's Eurovision Song Contest organisers to promote collaboration with young creatives in Switzerland.
A total of 36 unique designs were entered and judged by a jury made up of representatives of Basel 2025.
The winning design was submitted by Lynn Brunner, a 20-year-old student from Hünibach near Thun in the canton of Bern. Lynn has been studying visual communication (graphic design) at Basel Academy of Art and Design FHNW since last autumn and is currently in her second semester. It was felt that her passion for creativity and design shone through in her impressive creation.
Lumo
The mascot for Basel 2025 is called Lumo (derived from the word 'luminous', which is associated with shining or glowing light and energy). It's more than just a character – it's been designed to showcase the beating heart of Eurovision; a living symbol of the magic of music and of the Eurovision slogan 'United By Music'.
Lumo is said to embody the unstoppable power of music. Its untamed curly hair blazes like flames, dancing wildly to the beat and reflecting the electrifying euphoria of the Eurovision Song Contest. With its bright colours, it illustrates the heat of emotions – from fervent enthusiasm to the warming comfort of shared experiences. Its big bright eyes, mouth poised to burst into song, and its expressive hands make Lumo a joyous ambassador of musical diversity and togetherness.
As a gender-neutral and universal figure, Lumo represents unity and openness by bringing people of all ages and backgrounds together through the power of music.
From the beginning of May, Lumo will walk the streets of Basel spreading the spirit of the Eurovision Song Contest to locals and visitors to the Host City.
