Your guide to Iceland's Eurovision pre-selection 'Söngvakeppnin', as the Nordic nation gets set to select its song for Basel 2025.
How To Watch
The final of 'Söngvakeppnin' is happening on Saturday 22 February, starting at 20:45. Iceland's national broadcaster will be airing it on RÚV1, but if you're wanting to watch from outside of Iceland, you'll be able to live stream the show over on the official Eurovision Song Contest YouTube channel .
About Söngvakeppnin
Iceland has got 6 songs to choose from when the final of Söngvakeppnin is broadcast to the nation ( and beyond! ) on Saturday night.
10 entries initially took part in Söngvakeppnin 2025 and it was during two semi-finals that played out earlier in February that the Icelandic public selected their 6 for Saturday.
Our hosts for the night will be Benedikt Valsson, Guðrún Dís Emilsdóttir and Fannar Sveinsson. Benedikt and Fannar have previously presented the Icelandic national final in 2020, while Guðrún hosted in 2016 and was the Icelandic broadcaster's commentator for the 68th Eurovision Song Contest in May.
Voting on the night will come from two sources. An international jury made up of 7 panelists will account for 50% of the vote, while a public vote coming from Icelandic viewers watching at home will make up the remaining 50%.
In a change to the format from recent years, the 'duel superfinal' element of the competition (where a Top 2 is announced and voting opens again) has been removed. Instead, victory will go to the highest scoring song after the public vote and jury vote have been combined.
The winner of Söngvakeppnin will head to Basel to represent Iceland at the 69th Eurovision Song Contest.
